Future Astronauts

On the same day the UAE Mars Hope Probe successfully completed its journey to reach Mars’ orbit, the next generation of future UAE astronauts were born.

New-born babies who were born on 9th February were given special Emirati space suits to celebrate the successful Mars Hope Probe mission.

To celebrate the Hope Probe reaching Mars’ orbit, babies born on this historic day received an exceptional gift of a custom-made replica Emirati space suit. The UAE aims to inspire younger generations to dream big after 9th February, the day they made the impossible possible, and hopes this will spark within each baby a passion for discovery and innovation.

Just seven months since its launch in July 2020, the UAE’s Hope Probe ended its 493,500,000 km journey and entered Mars’ orbit on Tuesday 9th February 2021. This great feat – completed on time, on budget, and in a 6-year programme as opposed to a usual 10-year development time – made the Emirate the fifth player to ever reach Mars. These babies and their families will always have a treasured memory of the day the UAE soared high and the reminder that their country can help them to achieve something special.

Khaled AlShehhi, Executive Director of Marketing and Communications, the UAE Government Media Office: “We are happy to welcome new born babies to the world on such a special day. February 9, 2021 will be forever remembered as the day Arabs reached Mars for the first time in history. The Hope probe, launched as part of the Emirates Mars Mission, is now exploring the Red Planet in a new chapter of the UAE’s inspiring story that proves nothing is impossible and sets an example for the next generations in the region to follow”
