You’ve probably met a Gen Z. Or a dozen. You’ve smiled at their energy, nodded at their ideas, and assumed you understood them. I was one of those Gen Zs, but the assumptions in the room often didn’t match the person I was becoming.

I first felt it not as words, but in the quiet pauses and measured glances. Those moments taught me more about patience, presence and resilience than any lesson ever could.

I grew up in a traditional Asian family as the first daughter, raised with care and quiet guidance. Love was always there, but so were invisible boundaries. These boundaries shaped how long I stayed out, how I spoke, and how far my choices could reach.

Looking back, I realise those years were not only about restriction; they quietly prepared me. The watchfulness around me became my anchor, teaching me to observe before reacting, to listen before speaking, and to understand the unspoken dynamics of a room. What once felt limiting built the resilience I would later rely on.

Stepping beyond home, first through education and then into my career, I discovered a different kind of boundary: generational assumptions. Glances lingered, and ideas were often weighed against my age before they were even processed.

I learned quickly that capability is not declared; it is shown. It is earned quietly and consistently through every conversation, every decision, and every action.

Moving to Dubai and joining We Are Social deepened that shift. This company was built by women who started with little more than vision and unwavering determination.

Watching them lead with courage and clarity showed me that spaces are not “given.” They are claimed and built. I realised that the room I once thought too small to inhabit could expand with enough focus and grit.

The path hasn’t been without its hurdles. Clients have hesitated, assumptions about experience have persisted, and moments of self-doubt have surfaced. But I’ve learned to navigate these spaces deliberately, letting preparation meet persistence.

Along the way, mentors and leaders recognised potential in me before I could fully see it in myself. Their belief became a compass, helping me carve a realm where my presence and impact could no longer be ignored. The girl who once felt constrained realised she could define her own authority and her own narrative.

To every young woman who has felt unseen, dismissed, or underestimated:

“Your voice matters. Your ambition is valid. Your capacity is real.”

Each moment of doubt, whether from others or yourself, can become a guidepost, a mark of insight and determination. The path you create matters not just for you but for those who follow.

Step forward unapologetically, trust your instincts, and let your actions and impact speak louder than any assumption or expectation.
