17 regional entries awarded a pencil at D&AD

D&AD announced its winners over a two-day ceremony last week. 17 campaigns from the Middle East region have come out on the top. The awarded campaigns were from countries Egypt, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and UAE.

Egyptian agency, Tarek Nour Communications’ entry, Lonesome Traveller for Yacoub Magdi Foundation, was awarded the sole gold pencil in the region. The Gold pencil was awarded in the direction category for the short form sub-category.

UAE agency, And Us and Saudi Arabia’s Tarek Atrissi Design took home Graphite pencils for the campaigns, Undeniable Street View for United24 and Saudi Design Festival Visual Identity for Saudi Design Festival, respectively.

D&AD awarded a sum of 14 wood pencils in the region.

Flint Culture and Capsule Art’s Conversations Through Time was the only other campaign from Saudi Arabia to be awarded a pencil. The campaign was created as an installation for the  RCU – Royal Commissions of AlUla and won under the typography category.

Horizon FCB’s Break Chains with Blockchain received two pencils under the commerce category, while And Us’s The Undeniable Street View and One-Star Cookbook campaigns bagged five wood pencils altogether under the categories: media, book design, art direction, photography and experiential.

Impact BBDO took two pencils for the campaigns, Newspapers Inside The Newspaper and Schoolgirl Newscasters, while Publicis Groupe’s Publicis Middle East and Saatchi & Saatchi Middle East were awarded another two for the Call of the Adventure and The Right to Power.

DDB’s Giving Room and Ingo Hamburg’s Inflation-Proof Products won the remaining wood pencils.

UAE-based campaigns and agencies took home the most number of pencils being awarded 15 pencils in total. Egypt received the highest pencil in the region with its gold pencil and also took home two wood pencils. Saudi Arabia received one Graphite and one Wood Pencil with Lebanon campaigns receiving three wood pencils.
