Burger Wars: Burger King’s comeback to McDonald’s ChatGPT ad

Burger giants McDonald’s and Burger King are involved in a spat over a ChatGPT billboard placed next to each other in Brazil.

The ads feature answers written by ChatGPT, where OpenAI’s chatbot calls McDonald’s Big Mac the most “iconic burger” and names Burger King’s Whopper “the biggest.”

Burger King’s billboard seems to be a retaliation to McDonald’s launching a wider campaign based on the chatbot’s answer.

Over the years, the two fast-food chains have had various battles such as an initiative by Burger King to support Mental Health Awareness in the U.S.

The fast-food chain has partnered with Mental Health America and introduced a new range of Whopper “Real Meals” to suit various moods. Highlights include P**sed meal, Blue meal, Salty meal and a DGAF meal. The message suggests no one can be happy all the time, thus taking a stab at McDonald’s ‘Happy Meals’.

Fast-food chains are quickly adopting AI and being transformed  in creative ways. For example, Dodo Pizza Dubai uses AI chatbots to generate pizza recipes.

Following the demand of ChatGPT, ChefGPT was launched by OpenAI. The platform aims to recommend recipes and meal plans to simplify life for people. It asks users for a variety of details, including ingredients are available to them, before creating meal suggestions.

Subway recently unveiled an AI powered campaign to launch its double cheese SubMelts. The brand kicked off a series of activities powered by technology, including the latest in AI software imaging and feelings of nostalgia

An exclusive blind taste preview of its new SubMelts with six participants from across the region, allowed tasters to describe their experience in detail – from the first bite, the stretch of the cheese and their last mouthful.

Each participant unlocked nostalgic, feel-good memories of indulging into their favorite cheese sandwich.

As the contestants relived these fond memories, Subway’s tech team transcribed every word, feeding it to Midjourney, the latest AI imaging machine.

Midjourney then created custom AI portraits for the contestants, combining their first impressions of the SubMelt with their favorite memories.
