ASICS launches global study to tackle gender exercise gap

The sports brand urges women and influencers to give their views on what can be done to close the gap

ASICS is urging people in the UAE to participate in a global study that will expose what needs to be done to close the gender exercise gap.

The global sports brand is on a mission to move every mind because it believes that everyone should be able to experience the positive physical and mental benefits of exercise.

Last year, the ASICS State of Mind Index uncovered a gender exercise gap with women, especially young women, exercising significantly less than men.

Ana Seixas, Marketing Manager from ASICS Arabia, said: “The scale of this is huge, affecting thousands of women each day. We know that many women have stopped exercising and many girls don’t have the chance to regularly exercise in the first place.”

ASICS feels sportswomen aren’t always given the same opportunities and can face more challenges than their male counterparts. As a result, they have lower State of Mind Index scores, meaning they are missing out on the positive mental benefits that exercise brings.”

As a first step, ASICS is launching a global study to understand the motivators, barriers and facilitators of women’s exercise levels and sports participation and understand any differences between generations and geographies.

Seixas added: “It’s key for us is to understand what needs to be done to tackle exercise inequality once and for all. That’s why we are calling on as many men and women as possible to join our global community and share their stories on what is preventing women from regularly exercising, dropping out of exercise, struggling to maintain exercise levels or progress in their sport.”
