Meta rolls out advanced AI chatbot to all of its apps

With significant investment in AI and ample resources, Meta is now intensifying its efforts to compete with OpenAI and other players in the generative AI field.

Meta will soon integrate updated versions of its AI-powered smart assistant software across its suite of apps, spanning Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, and Facebook.

The AI software will become seamlessly integrated throughout the platform—embedded within the news feed, search bars, and conversations with friends.

Users will have the ability to seek assistance from the Meta AI, asking for help with various tasks and information, such as finding Saturday night concerts in the city or discovering the top spots for vegan enchiladas.

Although previously limited to the US, Meta AI is now expanding its reach to include English-speaking users in Australia, Canada, Ghana, Jamaica, Malawi, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Singapore, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Additional countries and languages are set to follow.

While this rollout falls short of Zuckerberg’s vision for a truly global AI assistant, it marks a significant step forward, bringing Meta AI closer to potentially reaching the company’s expansive user base of over 3 billion daily users.

According to Meta, “Built with Meta Llama 3, Meta AI is one of the world’s leading AI assistants, already on your phone, in your pocket for free. And it’s starting to go global with more features. You can use Meta AI on Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger to get things done, learn, create and connect with the things that matter to you.”

Using the new chat feature within Instagram’s messaging, users will have the capability to search the web for information, helping the context of your conversations.
