MBC GROUP – the largest media group in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) – announced the launch of The Fananees (NFT) Genesis Collectibles, offering its most popular characters in digital intellectual property (IP) to the wide community of non-fungible token (NFT) enthusiasts, experts, and collectors in the region.
The digital collectables feature MBC GROUP’s renowned seven cartoon characters of the hit animation, with more than 200 different attributes and varying levels of rarity. This forward-looking project serves the NFT community, market growth and utility; while offering brands, tech enthusiasts, and consumers converged solutions and sizeable investment opportunities.
A total of 9,999 unique NFTs will be revealed on the first day of Ramadan, scheduled to commence on or around 2 April 2022. Future collections of digital collectables will be available around the Ramadan season, in the coming years.
Commenting on The Fananees (NFT) Genesis Collectibles, Fadel Zahreddine, Group Director of Emerging Media at MBC GROUP said: “’Fananees’ is one of the most successful and well-known animations in the Arab world, with some of the most recognisable characters. In this era of constant innovation, we want to be at the forefront of emerging opportunities in NFTs, blockchain, and the metaverse.
“We are committed to driving innovation, and our beloved ‘Fananees’ characters will be released as NFTs, as our debut venture. I’m optimistic that this first step into the NFT age will pave the way for MBC GROUP to expand its presence in the realm of digital IPs.”
Fananees NFTs are the MENA’s first unique NFT collection which celebrates the region’s rich cultural heritage, powered by compelling, premium content and the latest innovations in blockchain technology. The Fananees NFTs will be integrated into existing games, allowing users to connect their NFTs to their game account and change their avatar to their very own NFT image.
Additionally, Fananees NFT holders are set to receive 1% of all revenues from the NFT sales (primary and secondary), as well as receive different offline and online rewards, ranging from access to events and early viewings to streaming services and others.
The MENA region’s first NFT premium media project is the result of a partnership between MBC GROUP and the Zurich-based ANCORE Strategy – a technology and go-to market advisory firm – and AFTERMEDIA, the commercial and business development company that helps client-partners develop and implement sales strategies, while aiming to meet growth targets.
On his part, Hani Ghorayeb, Founder and CEO of AFTERMEDIA stated: “It’s high time for brands and tech to connect together with consumers to raise the levels of engagement around NFTs. This converged solution serves the purpose of the NFT community, its market growth and utility, while offering clients viable commercial solutions coupled with sizeable opportunities”
Pavel Jakovlev, Founder and Managing Partner of ANCORE Strategy concluded: “It’s exciting to push the envelope of NFT technology in the region’s first-mover collection. This becomes even more interesting as we explore the ‘Fananees’ utility in gaming and the much-anticipated metaverse.”
