The UK-based Caples Awards, a free-to-enter global festival run by creative people for creative people, announced its winners last week for 2023. Impact BBDO, winning 5 golds, 9 silvers and 3 bronzes, has been named Agency of the Year for 2023. Impact BBDO has said that they are the first agency from the Middle East to have been awarded this accolade.
In 2023, Caples received entries from 52 countries, and were judged by 55 jurors from 22 countries. 1,704 entries this year resulted in 39 Golds, 86 Silvers and 134 Bronzes. The Caples Awards were founded in 1978 in New York by luminary copywriter Andi Emerson and named in honour of her former boss, legendary Mad Man John Caples. Originally a show devoted to Direct Marketing, the Caples have evolved over the years and now celebrate every discipline of the industry.
The Best in Show for 2023 was won by BBDO New York for its M&Ms campaign “Spokescandies on Pause.” Rankin Carroll, Chief Brand Officer of Mars, also won the Courageous Client of the Year award for 2023.
Several regional agencies also won metals, including FP7 McCann for HeinzJack, Leo Burnett Beirut for its Not Hot Collection and The Currency of Corruption, M&C Saatchi Abu Dhabi for the Flame-Grilled Challenge, and Wunderman Thompson Riyadh for the Subconscious Order.
Speaking about BBDO’s wins at the 2023 Caples Awards, Ali Rez, CCO of Impact BBDO, said, “This is a very big honor. The work entered at Caples this year was of a very high caliber from around the world, and it’s great to see so many agencies from the region doing so well. A big thank you to Patrick Collister for keeping the creative spirit alive with this fabulous show.”
