In conversation with Campaign Middle East on its ‘On The Record’ podcast, Sir Martin Sorrell, the Founder of WPP, and the Founder and Executive Chairman of S4 Capital, shares top tips for marketers and advice for young professionals taking their first steps in the realm of brand and marketing.
In this latest episode, Sir Martin discusses his perspectives on the development of the creative industry in the Middle East – and Saudi Arabia in particular, and what marketeers need to do to constantly stay ahead of the curve.
He also opens up about his mentors, the global leaders he looks up to, and the top lessons that he’s picked up through his decorated career that he’d like to pass on to the young leaders of today.
Sharing a snippet from an intriguing conversation, Sir Martin said, “There are three things that marketeers really need to focus on at the moment. One is agility in a world that is so volatile. I know a lot of people talk about agility, but very few organisations practice it to the degree that they should – both on the clients’ side, if I can be so bold, and the agency side. The second point is to take back control. In a world where technology and data and distribution is taking control, we need to take back control. And the third point is first-party data.”
An interesting nugget: Sir Martin Sorrell shares what he chose to print on his shield when he got Knighted in the UK, and how those Latin words reflect his values and principles.
Sir Martin Sorrell also discusses the value of attending the Athar – the Saudi Festival of Creativity, which is being held on the 5th and 6th of November in Riyadh. The full lineup of speakers and opportunities at the festival, including talent and training initiatives have been announced.
