TikTok’s #BeSafeBeHappy Campaign highlights the importance of a safe online experience

Campaign launched on Safer Internet Day aims to spread positivity among TikTok users in the MENA region

In recognition of Safer Internet Day 2021, which is marked globally on February 9th, TikTok has launched a campaign to encourage its users to take a more active role in adopting a healthy relationship with the online world. The #BeSafeBeHappy campaign from TikTok is in line with its commitment to provide a safe and positive in-app environment.

Being up to speed in technology has never been so important. Join us for our Campaign Online Briefing | Adtech Strategies on February 22nd. Registration is free, spots are limited.

Through this campaign, the platform is encouraging TikTokers to create videos which spread positive messages focused on staying safe for an enjoyable experience on TikTok. Using a joyful soundtrack developed by no other than regional rising superstar, Anthony Touma, users are encouraged to check the community guidelines, familiarize themselves with the safety features in-app and to contribute to the #BeSafeBeHappy meme challenge in an effort to spread positivity and raise awareness on TikTok’s safety features.

Rami Zeidan, head of video and creative at TikTok said, “As the leading platform for video content, we have a responsibility at TikTok to provide our users with a safe and positive environment and this is something we don’t take lightly. Everything we do is shaped by our community guidelines which define a common code of conduct and highlights what is allowed and what is not on TikTok. These guidelines are continuously updated to make sure that TikTok remains a safe, diverse and authentic platform for creative expression. The #BeSafeBeHappy campaign is yet another step to raise awareness of our safety features and ensure our users continue to experience and spread joy on the platform.”

#BeSafeBeHappy has seen the participation of key content creators from across the region including Thamer (@xzit_thamer) a Saudi based gamer, who encouraged his followers to report videos that are deemed unsafe, Egyptian based Youssef Magdy (@zambaolak_keda) who showcased how to report negative comments, Egyptian yoga instructor Vatika (@.vatika) who expressed her love for TikTok and acknowledges her supporters and fans who spread positivity and Lebanese Ahmad Aassi (@Ahmaddassii) who created a TikTok, teaching users how to report and block people who are misusing TikTok.

#BeSafeBeHappy is TikTok’s latest initiative to protect users against misuse. Last month, the platform announced further changes to its privacy setting to ensure a safer experience for younger users including, setting accounts to private for users aged 13-15 years by default and enforcing strict controls for all users under the age of 18.
