The platform updates you need to know from August

Campaign Middle East rounds up the latest updates on social media and content and streaming platforms from August. Here are the key highlights:

Instagram:

You can now repost your favorite public reels and posts and see the content your friends are enjoying.

With reposts, you can repost public reels and feed posts, making it easier for you to share your interests with your friends. Reposts will be recommended to your friends’ and followers’ feeds, and they’ll also be in a separate tab on your profile, so you can always go back to revisit your reposts.

Reposts are credited to the original poster. If you’re a creator, this means that if your content is reposted by someone else, it may be recommended to that person’s followers, even if those people don’t follow you. This gives creators and brands a new opportunity to reach more people whenever you create something worth sharing.

LinkedIn:

LinkedIn is continuing its foray into casual gaming with the launch of Mini Sudoku, its sixth game to date. This new addition was released in early August and is a nod to one of the world’s most enduring logic puzzles.

Developed in collaboration with Nikoli, the legendary Japanese publisher that first introduced Sudoku 44 years ago, Mini Sudoku blends classic brain training with LinkedIn’s professional edge.

Google:

Google has announced the rollout of AI Mode across the Middle East and North Africa, bringing its most advanced AI-powered Search experience to users in the region.

The feature will appear as a dedicated tab on Search results and within the Google app for Android and iOS, with availability expanding over the coming days. It launches initially in English, with support for additional languages planned.

WhatsApp:

WhatsApp has rolledd out new WhatsApp tools to help people spot scams and stay safe while messaging.

Group messaging: We’re launching a new safety overview that we’ll show you when someone who is not in your contacts adds you to a new WhatsApp group you may not recognise.

Individual messaging: Additionally, scammers may attempt to first initiate contact with you elsewhere on the internet before asking to message them on private messengers like WhatsApp.

WhatsApp is exploring ways to caution users when startting a chat with someone not in their contacts by showing them additional context about who they are messaging so they can make an informed decision.
