Pizza Hut UAE is giving pizza lovers even more reason to participate in Earth Hour this year, with the chance to win free pizza on successful completion of an hour ‘offline’.
As the UAE gears up to join millions of people across the world in raising awareness of the issues facing the planet, Pizza Hut is providing customers with an alternative way to get involved – other than having to just turn off their lights.
“Earth Hour typically involves switching off lights between 8:30 – 9:30 pm, but this is dinner time for many. Since it’s kind of hard to eat pizza in the dark, this year we wanted to encourage people to support a great cause in a different, but just as impactful, way,” said Beverley D’Cruz, chief brand officer, Pizza Hut META.
It comes following reports that, in the US alone, data centres consume as much, if not more, energy (70 billion kWh) as household lighting (62 billion kWh). With this in mind, Pizza Hut is urging customers to disconnect from the internet by turning off WiFi and data, meaning they’re not connected to the networks and data centres that power social media feeds, streaming video and messaging services.
“We know how much the world loves pizza and we love the world right back. We can’t wait for everyone to demonstrate that love by disconnecting for one hour and look forward to rewarding those efforts with a chance to win free pizza,” continued D’Cruz.
To take part, just visit offlinehour.me where you’ll be prompted to switch off WiFi and/or cellular data in support of Earth Hour. If you manage to complete an entire hour offline, you’ll have the chance to win a free small pizza*.
