Fatima Al Harthi, Laila Al Yousuf, and Maximilian Büsser are the new Canon “Trailblazers”

Emirati equestrian Fatima Al Harthi, Emirati commercial interior designer Laila Al Yousuf, and Dubai-based Swiss watchmaker Maximilian Büsser, are the new Canon “Trailblazers”.

Canon Middle East launched the 2022 edition of its Trailblazer series with Emirati equestrian Fatima Al Harthi, Emirati commercial interior designer Laila Al Yousuf, and Dubai-based Swiss watchmaker Maximilian Büsser, as the latest changemakers to be celebrated by the brand.

The series was launched via a panel discussion with all three trailblazers, where they shared their experiences, struggles and inspiring stories. The session was moderated by media personality Jessy El Murr and streamed live across Canon Middle East’s social media platforms. The campaign was filmed by Shadani Consulting, under the supervision of DOP Gregor Amon.

Emirati equestrian and endurance rider Fatima Al Harthi is a force to be reckoned with – one of the UAE’s youngest and foremost distance riders, Fatima is synonymous with challenging the status quo and is training to represent the UAE in international competitions: “Horse riding is my passion and I want to be one of the best Emirati riders. My biggest inspiration is our father, Sheikh Zayed who made us feel proud to be Emirati women. My belief is to get up, show up and never give up”.

Emirati award-winning Commercial Interior Designer Laila Al Yousuf has broken many barriers as one of the few women to design and construct spaces across the Middle East. Frequently celebrated as a leading force of change within the design community, Laila believes that “Everybody has a chance to do and achieve whatever they want in Dubai. You have to work hard, believe in yourself also look for allies, like other women as mentors, within the industry”.

Swiss watchmaker Maximilian Büsser is an international icon of luxury watchmaking, who has taken the watch industry by storm. His watch brand MB&F (Maximilian Büsser& Friends) is heralded as one of the most iconic independent watch brands of the 21st century, and believes that people should never give up on their dreams: “Creativity is an addiction. Once you create something that scared you and it actually works, you feel numb if you don’t get more adrenaline. I started dreaming of something that was impossible. I didn’t have the money, the concept seemed completely utopian, but I kept on dreaming and it took years.”

The ‘Trailblazer’ series aims to put a spotlight on people who have a clear goal and through their vision, perseverance and boldness have emerged victorious – their inspirational stories deserve to be given a platform. At Canon we believe in the power of storytelling as a catalyst for change and are proud to be amplifying the voices of these incredible individuals. The interviews have been filmed using the latest Canon cameras and lenses, including the EOS C70, EOS R5 and EOS R6 and cameras. Additionally, the interviews are supplemented by a special Behind The Scenes (BTS) segment hosted by the creative talents who shot the series. Canon photography ambassador Jorge Ferrari and specialized photographer Tina Patni offer a special insider perspective into the photography process, while renowned Director, Gregor Amon, who shot all the interviews, shares his advice on how to engage in visual storytelling via the video capabilities of the cameras.
