The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and Binary have revealed that content from the BBC World Service, including features and podcasts, is now streaming on thousands of Binary TV screens powered by Passenger OS inside Hala taxis, run by the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (Dubai RTA).
The roll-out places the BBC’s award-winning journalism before an audience of millions of taxi passengers every month, intending to transform routine journeys into moments of information, inspiration and discovery.
Khalid Abdalla, Head of Business Development MENA and West Asia, BBC, said, “Working with Binary brings the BBC World Service’s trusted journalism straight to Dubai’s taxi passengers, an exciting new touchpoint that broadens our reach and service to audiences across the region.”
Within the Binary TV screens in the Hala taxis, BBC aims to offer passengers with:
- Trusted coverage – Access to impartial global and regional news in English and Arabic.
- Rich storytelling – Concise video reports, human-interest features and podcasts suited to any trip length.
- Fresh line-ups – Playlists updated regularly so passengers always encounter something new.
Santosh Sarma, Co-Founder and CEO, Binary, said, “Binary TV is rapidly becoming the operating system for people on the move. Partnering with the BBC supercharges that mission—bringing real value to millions of monthly rides and showing that the journey can be just as engaging as the destination.”
Khaled Nuseibeh, CEO, Hala, added, “At Hala, we constantly seek ways to enhance the passenger experience beyond the journey itself. Bringing BBC’s rich mix of news, stories, and podcasts into our taxis through Binary’s platform adds real value for our riders, turning travel time into moments of connection, discovery, and entertainment. This partnership reflects our commitment to smart, passenger-focused innovation across Dubai, ensuring every ride is smooth, engaging, and memorable.”
