Y&R has opened an operation in Muscat on the back of its winning of the Omantel and Oman Mobile accounts.
The agency has been tasked with growing brand equity for the two entities, with the account covering everything from print and outdoor to TV and online. Y&R falls under the Menacom umbrella, and the new office will be headed up by Rajesh Raman, who takes the title of Menacom group vice president for Oman. He is supported by an initial headcount of 15 staff.
Nassib Boueiri, Y&R’s CEO for the Middle East and Africa, said: “We are very happy with this win and to be working closely with the Omantel team. We have been looking at growing our presence across the region in key markets and Oman represents a lot of potential for us a group.”
The Oman accounts follow Y&R Abu Dhabi’s winning of the advertising account for satellite broadband service YahClick, which is part of the Al Yah Satellite Communications Company. The firm launched the UAE’s first satellite into orbit earlier this year.
Menacom also includes Wunderman, media agency MEC and PR outfit Asda’a Burson-Marsteller.
