The Film House Doha depicts ‘Women in Conflict’

Doha–based production company, The Film House, created a film for the launch of the “Women in Conflict Zones” initiative by the Qatar Fund for Development. The film was played during the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 77).

Highlighting the plight of women caught up in conflict, the film draws from statistics showcasing displacement, abuse, abandonment that the women suffer. Where the threat of sexual violence, torture, and risk to livelihoods rises astronomically and education, healthcare, and the propensity to care diminishes. It’s also found that sixty per cent of maternal deaths take place during crisis.

With respect to peacekeeping, when women are included in peace agreements, the likelihood that they will last at least 15 years increases by 35 per cent. The bottom line is that women suffer immensely in conflict, but when they are empowered, they can exist. With support, even despite conflict, women can look after themselves, their loved ones and their communities.

The Qatar Fund for Development’s ‘Women in Conflict’ initiative allows for various projects and interventions that support women in conflict and fragile settings, in the form of humanitarian aid and developmental assistance.
