Last year, it was announced that Abu Dhabi International Airport would be renamed Zayed International Airport in the honour of the UAE’s founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
The name has come into effect starting this February.
The renaming of the airport is complemented also by a rebrand of the airport.
Abu Dhabi Airports revealed the new brand identity at the renaming event of the Zayed International Airport.
The new brand identity pays tribute to Sheikh Zayed’s legacy and history of accomplishments of introducing the UAE to the world, focusing on the richness of Emirati culture and Arabian heritage.
The visual identity aims to showcase the emirate of Abu Dhabi through shape and forms inspired by its landscape and history, as well as by the design of the airport itself.

Elements including a traditional dhow boat, a date palm tree, the desert sun, the Qasr Al Hosn Fort and Terminal A – the airport’s new terminal building – served as creative sources for the new logo.
The launch of Zayed International Airport’s new brand was accompanied by video highlights of over 1,750 drones coming together in an air display to form the airport’s new logo.
Abu Dhabi Airports also celebrated the launch of the new brand by displaying it across Burj Khalifa in Dubai.
To celebrate the new name and brand, the airport hosted a number of activities for passengers travelling through the airport.

These included live performances by international artists, digital showcases, personalised travel giveaways and offers and promotions from partners.
The celebrations are in line with the airport’s aim to place passenger experience at the heart of its operations at Zayed International Airport.
