X sets to launch TV app for videos

X, the company formerly known as Twitter, is launching a TV app for videos.

The social media platform can tap into the growing market of streaming and on-demand content.

It will allows users to access videos on their TVs, potentially improving their viewing experience and could make X’s TV app a hit among users.

Linda Yaccarino, Former CEO at X has revealed plans for a new app designed and shared a teaser video  showing a platform similar to YouTube’s.

The app will include a video trending algorithm aimed at keeping users informed with customised popular content, along with AI-driven topics which will help organise videos into different categories based on their topics. It will also allow cross-device viewing, users will be able to transition from watching a video on their phone to viewing it on their TV.

Yaccarino mentions that the app will have better video search and will be accessible on ‘most smart TVs.’ While there isn’t a confirmed launch date yet, she assures that it will be available soon.

Yaccarino’s plan for the social media platform is to transform it into a ‘video first’ space and allow free speech.

Currently, the platform showcases original programmes hosted by former congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard and former Fox Sports host Jim Rome.

The announcement was made a week following Truth Social, the social media platform owned by Donald Trump’s media company, revealing its intentions to introduce a live TV streaming service.

According to X, the focus of the platform will be on ‘news networks’ and ‘religious channels,’ as well as on providing content that has been canceled or is being repressed on other platforms and services.
