Mom Store has partnered with independent integrated agency Think Human to launch ‘For the Love of the Beautiful Game’, a social-first campaign that draws parallels between football and parenthood during the World Cup season.
Created to capitalise on one of the world’s biggest sporting events while remaining true to the retailer’s parenting focus, the campaign translates familiar football terminology into everyday parenting experiences.
At the centre of the campaign is a hero film that uses the energy and language of live football commentary to transform ordinary family moments into match-day highlights. A baby’s feet sticking out of a crib become ‘Offside’, successfully feeding a child is called a ‘Goal’, checking the baby monitor becomes ‘VAR’, a stroller dispute is reframed as ‘Possession’, a car seat becomes ‘Solid Defence’, and finally getting a baby to sleep marks the ‘Final Whistle”.
The concept was developed around the idea that although football and parenting appear to have little in common, both are filled with small victories, setbacks, teamwork and memorable moments.
According to the agency, the mandate was to make Mom Store culturally relevant during one of the biggest sporting moments in the world, while staying firmly rooted in the brand’s world of parenting.
“The strength of the idea lies in the unexpected connection. Football and parenthood aren’t worlds we naturally put together. Yet the more we looked, the more parallels we found. The campaign positions Mom Store as the brand that understands the small wins, challenges and everyday moments that make up the beautiful game of parenthood,” said the agency.
Designed as a social-first campaign, the hero film is supported by a series of standalone digital assets, each focusing on a different football term including offside, goal, VAR, free kick, defence, possession, substitution, assist, dribbling and final whistle.
The campaign targets parents and parents-to-be, particularly young families following the World Cup who are likely to recognise the parenting scenarios depicted throughout the creative.
According to the agency, football commentary provided a universally recognisable storytelling device that could make everyday parenting moments instantly relatable, while the social and digital format enabled the content to be shared organically and allowed Mom Store’s product range to feature naturally within the narrative rather than as a traditional product showcase.
Performance will be measured through social engagement, shares, traffic to Mom Store’s digital platforms and the campaign’s ability to strengthen the brand’s association with the realities of modern parenting while generating conversation throughout the World Cup period.
