How Spotify turned guest list into a premium supper club experience

Spotify's Guest List featuring Chef Kelvin Cheung blends music, food and storytelling, bringing Spotify Premium features to life through a supper club.

In a market as culturally layered as the UAE, identity is often shaped by more than one place, one language, one sound or one story. Spotify’s ongoing series, Guest List, was created to explore exactly that.

Each edition invites a cultural voice from the UAE to open up their world through music. The format is simple but personal. Every guest collaborates with Spotify on a playlist called “Guest List”, curating the songs that reflect their memories, routines, roots and relationship with the UAE. Around that playlist, Spotify builds a wider story through film and social content, capturing the people, places, and moments that shaped them.

Guest List is built on the belief that music can reveal parts of a person that words often cannot. A song can point to where someone grew up, what they miss, what they return to, or how they move through a city. In the UAE, where many people carry more than one culture, home and identity are rarely singular. That makes the market a natural home for a series built around cultural voices whose stories are shaped by movement, memory and place.

For this edition, Spotify’s guest was Chef Kelvin Cheung.

Known for his third-culture cooking, Kelvin’s story reflects the same layered identity that Guest List is designed to explore. Chinese-Canadian, raised in Chicago, trained in France and now based in Dubai, his food brings together the places, memories, and influences that shaped him.

Through his Guest List playlist, hero film, and supporting social content, Spotify invited audiences into Kelvin’s world: the music he listens to, the places that ground him in the UAE, and the memories that find their way onto the plate.

“Guest List was created from the belief that music is one of the most personal ways people tell you who they are. In the UAE, where identity is shaped by many cultures, places and memories at once, that idea feels especially powerful. With Chef Kelvin, the connection was natural because his food works the same way his playlist does: it carries where he has been, what shaped him and what he is still discovering,” says Babar Khan – Content Marketing Manager – GCC, Spotify

But this edition of Guest List did not end with content.

Spotify extended Kelvin’s story into an IRL moment through the Spotify Premium Supper Club, an intimate dinner experience held on 29 June at Jun’s Dubai. If Guest List introduced Kelvin through music, memory and place, the Supper Club translated those same ideas into food, storytelling and participation.

The dinner brought together 22 members of Dubai’s creative community, from photographers and content creators to media voices and cultural tastemakers shaping the city’s music, food and lifestyle conversations. Ahead of the evening, each guest shared personal details with Spotify and Chef Kelvin: favourite foods, comfort dishes, childhood snacks, preferred flavours and songs that could instantly lift their mood.

Kelvin used those answers to shape the experience, creating a dinner that felt less like a fixed menu and more like a reflection of the people around the table. Much like Spotify builds listening experiences around individual taste, the Supper Club was designed so every guest encountered something that felt personal to them.

The evening brought four Spotify Premium features to life through food, music and shared moments: AI DJ, Jam, Lossless and Mix.

AI DJ opened the experience by turning personalised listening into personalised dining. Just as Spotify’s DJ creates a lineup shaped by a listener’s taste, Kelvin used the guests’ pre-event responses as the starting point for a course that felt tailored to each person.

Jam became a shared table moment, inspired by the way Spotify allows people to listen together and contribute to one session in real time. The course invited guests to participate collectively, turning one dish into something shaped by everyone at the table.

Lossless was expressed through craft, clarity and detail. Rather than overcomplicating the plate, the course focused on precision and quality, echoing the way richer audio allows listeners to experience music with more depth and texture.

Mix came to life as a palate cleanser, reflecting the role of transition in both music and food. Just as Spotify’s mixing tools help tracks move smoothly into one another, the course reset the palate and carried guests seamlessly into the next moment of the evening.

The evening ended with Discovery, not as a product feature, but as the larger truth at the heart of Spotify. Every time someone comes to Spotify, there is something new to find: a song they have not heard before, an artist they did not know yet, or a sound that feels personal the moment it reaches them.

For the final course, guests were invited to build something from their own memories, tastes and instincts. It brought the experience back to the idea behind both Guest List and Spotify Premium: discovery works best when it feels effortless, personal and rooted in what you already love.

The campaign was designed to build cultural relevance for Spotify in the UAE while helping audiences understand Spotify Premium in a more human way. Rather than explaining product features through traditional messaging, the Supper Club turned them into moments guests could taste, share and remember.

Across Instagram and TikTok, the Guest List content generated approximately 2.16 million views, led by the main film and supported by the One Track Mind social franchise and playlist cover creative. The Supper Club extended that digital storytelling into a real-world Spotify Premium experience, generating 150 pieces of earned coverage and 1.6 million media impressions.

Together, Guest List and the Spotify Premium Supper Club showed how Spotify can move from platform to culture: using music to tell local stories, working with voices who shape the UAE’s creative landscape, and turning product features into experiences people can feel.
