Paul O’Connor, Director of Brand Communications and Sports Marketing at Adidas has announced his departure from the sportswear company. O’Connor was part of the marketing team behind one of the two Grands Prix awarded to region at Cannes Lions, last year.
In his Linkedin post announcing his departure, O’Connor said that the decision to leave was “the most difficult decision” of his life.
He says, “Adidas has been a huge part of my life for over 7 years and taken me on a journey that I could have never imagined. As a team, we reimagined what was possible with world class disruptive activations, campaigns and partnerships.”
O’Connor also mentions the highlights of his time at the company, including the major win at Cannes for Adidas’ Liquid Billboard campaign. He referred to the campaign as the campaign that “set the bar in adidas for a new standard in storytelling.”
He was also part of the team behind the famed Ravi x Adidas limited edition shoes campaign, which took home three Grands Prix awards for Integrated, Entertainment and PR at Dubai Lynx, this year. He mentioned this campaign “changed the game in sneaker culture with one of the most talked about key city collaborations ever.”
Another campaign from Adidas that took the stage over his tenure was the FIFA World Cup billboard which featured Argentina’s win at the tournament with Lionel Messi, a prominent brand ambassador, at the centre stage.
In his note, he thanked the agencies that were a part of the campaigns, “Of course the success could not have been possible without our amazing agencies: Havas Middle East, Red Havas ME, Jack Morton Worldwide, Sweetwater Mea, MediaCom, VertexCGI, FP7 McCann.”
As of writing, O’Connor’s next venture is yet to be confirmed. However, he mentions in his post that his next move will be into the “world of tech”.
