Campaign’s PR Faces to Watch 2020 – Rachel Chang, Associate, Brunswick Dubai

Age: 30

Jade Mamarbachi, partner, Brunswick Dubai: Rachel advises some of the region’s largest organisations on communicating around major issues, milestones and campaigns. In her time with Brunswick, she has supported on a major listing; coordinated communications response in real-time to fast-moving cyberattacks; and planned multi-year campaigns with a mix of clever thinking, strategy and tactical outreach. She has demonstrated her value as a standout Brunswick colleague: resourceful, resilient and calm under pressure. Rachel has also been a strong advocate for our cybersecurity practice in the region, by both educating colleagues internally and supporting clients with their cyber crisis communications preparation.

Career highlights

I’ve advised some of the biggest international and regional organisations on navigating a range of business-critical issues – from responding to a cyberattack to preparing for a major listing. I lead Brunswick Gulf’s cybersecurity practice, and have helped clients prepare for, respond to, and lead on cyber issues.

I’m also a passionate advocate for gender equality, and have worked with the GCC chapter of the 30 Per Cent Club towards achieving better representation of women on boards and in senior level positions. I most recently represented Brunswick as a delegate at the One Young World conference in 2019.

Before Brunswick, I worked with law firms, start-ups, consultancies and think-tanks in Europe and the Middle East.

Guiding principles

“Aim high. Be kind. Dare to be different.”

Simple yet effective – and also stolen from my partner, who actually heard it from his mentor.

Dream job

A writer-director for film and television bringing women’s stories to life. Something along the lines of Greta Gerwig or Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

Side hustle

Rock climbing. On any given weekend, you’ll find me in the mountains of Oman or Ras Al Khaimah. I started climbing when I moved to Dubai four years ago, and discovered a wonderful community of climbers who took me under their wing. As I’ve built up my skills, I’ve been paying it forward by showing newer climbers the ropes – literally.
