Campaign’s Creative Faces to Watch 2020 – Saleh El Ghatit, Associate creative director, Science & Sunshine
Ash Chagla, executive creative director, Science & Sunshine: Saleh is a walking idea box packed full of exciting, fun and irreverent sparks of genius, and just the right amount of crazy. He’s also a natural leader who is passionate about film and colourful socks. Aside from being a rising star in our agency who has created some of our best campaigns, he has the best sock collection, hands down.
Went to the Creative Circus in Atlanta to study art direction. Got a Job at Y&R Dubai. Followed by a job at Leo Burnett. Then made my way to a lovely independent shop, Science & Sunshine, where I’m currently as an ACD. Was lucky enough to find a mentor throughout the beginning of my career, which helped immensely. Got sent to Cape Town as the only creative on a film shoot as a junior art director. I presented the same deck 20 times, I got a shoot pulled a few hours before rolling. That’s only to name a few moments. What I’m trying to say is you have to go through a lot of stuff first to come out happy with who you are as a creative on the other side. And let’s put it that way, still going through the stuff, good and bad.
Always be curious. At any given time, you should have a book that you’re reading. You’ll be surprised by what it does to you.
A bounty hunter in the 1800s.
I got into sounds for no reason other than hearing normal sounds up close. Started when I got my first microphone and started recording my interaction with things. It’s like hearing a zoomed-in version of sound. There’s something about hearing the softest sounds in detail that brings me joy. I haven’t done anything with the recordings. It’s just a side hustle for my own pleasure, I guess.
