Betfair pays out on ‘no’ in Scottish referendum

Marketing Magazine UK’s Ben Bold reports that this not only marks confidence that the majority will vote ‘no’, but is also a publicity-savvy piece of marketing by the site.

Betfair is so confident of the outcome of the Scottish referendum that it is already paying out a “substantial six figure sum” to punters who opted for a “no”, days before the referendum.

Betfair said that data gleaned from consumers behaviour from its own betting exchange suggested a 79% likelihood of a “no”.

The bookmaker admits that its own figures fly in the face of the majority of polls, which suggest the vote on Thursday will be very close.
