70 hotels across the city were awarded with the stamp that proved their commitment to sustainability

The Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) recently awarded hotels in Dubai with the ‘Dubai Sustainable Tourism Stamp’.

The sustainable stamp is part of a new sustainability initiative that seeks to recognise hotels that meet the  DET’s 19 ‘Sustainability Requirements’.

The stamp is awarded based on a three-tiered system of gold, silver, and bronze, on the basis of the winner’s level of compliance to the sustainability requirements achieved.

70 hotels across the city were awarded with the stamp that proved their commitment to implementing sustainability practices and activities.

The stamp also indicates that the hotels meet the expectations of travel industry partners, as well as an  environmentally conscious traveller base.

Positioning Dubai as a “sustainable destination”

The Dubai Sustainable Tourism Stamp (DST) intiative is also part of Dubai Tourism’s efforts to position the city as a leading sustainable destination and to contribute to the UAE’s wider Net Zero goals, according to His Excellency Issam Kazim, CEO, Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing.

“Through the continued development of the DST Stamp, as well as other current and future initiatives, we look forward to further consolidating Dubai’s status as a sustainable tourism destination,” he adds.

Mr. Yousuf Lootah, Head of DET Environmental Sustainability & Social Responsibility Committee, said: “This is an important step towards achieving our strategic goal of making Dubai the first choice destination for global travellers seeking the ultimate sustainable experience.”

Valid for a year, the stamp is the the latest initiative in DET’s sustainability strategy. Previous initiatives include the launch of a Carbon Calculator and the Dubai Can initiative which focused on the ‘Refill for Life’ campaign to promote the use of reusable bottles.

The initiative was launched last year in line with the UAE Year of Sustainability and COP28 taking place in Dubai.

The stamp awards were presented to the hotels by His Excellency Issam Kazim, CEO of Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing, and Mr. Yousuf Lootah, Head of DET Environmental Sustainability & Social Responsibility Committee in a ceremony at Sofitel, The Obelisk.
