Designers from the UAE and across the world have contributed to a unique Dubai-based musical project that’s set to launch on 17 May.
Fourteen posters inspired by songs from the album A L.A.S, which is the brainchild of Adriano Konialidis, have been produced by illustrators, graphic designers, typographers and artists from Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, Poland, the UK, Germany, Switzerland, Greece, New Zealand and the UAE. Among them is Sharjah-based Lina Al Amoudi.
The double album features traditional Argentinean and Uruguayan folk music in its raw format alongside remixed versions of the songs. Producers such as Mark Farina, Mo’Horizons, Jon Kennedy and Up, Bustle & Out are involved in the project, which is the inaugural release from Konialidis’ Desmo Records.
“Trying to translate music visually is a pretty curious idea, and it takes your mind to new places,” said Leo Rosa Borges, the project’s art director. “What does music look like? We thought this concept would be worth pursuing. Adriano then had the idea of getting different artists from around the world to interpret the songs in the album in the form of posters, making the project something bigger than just an album. Now it has become a multi-discipline project bringing together music and visual arts.”
A L.A.S is to be launched at Casa Latina, the Ibis Hotel, Dubai, on 17 May.
