Lowe MENA’s executive creative director Komal Bedi Sohal is to be the UAE’s sole jury member at this year’s Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.
A multiple Cannes Lions winner, Bedi Sohal will be a judge on the press jury. Last year’s juror was Shahir Zag, Y&R’s chief creative officer. “When you move from dreaming of having an entry at Cannes, to having a shortlist, then to winning, then winning big, and then find yourself judging the work of the best creative people in the world – it is simply overwhelming,” said Bedi Sohal of her selection. “I am honoured to be a judge at the Cannes Lions 2012, especially since I am representing not only my agency but the UAE as well, the hub of advertising agencies in the MENA region. I believe that this is another great proof that Cannes celebrates creativity from all over the world and that creativity itself has no boundaries.”
The Big Won report ranked Bedi Sohal the second best art director in the world for 2011, based on awards won. The previous year she was placed fifth, whilst in 2009 she was eighth. She has worked in advertising for nearly 18 years, beginning her career in India, before moving to Dubai and working at Y&R for eight-and-a-half years. It was her work at Y&R that helped her bag the majority of her international awards, including two gold and two silver Lions. She also runs the independent agency Kobeso.
This year’s Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity runs from 17 to 23 June.
