The president of UAE, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan,  has issued directives to rename Abu Dhabi International Airport.

The airport will adopt a new name to be called Zayed International Airport.

The new name pays an ode to the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, founder of the United Arab Emirates.

The new official name will take effect from next year on 9 February, 2024.

Abu Dhabi International Airport’s new name will be adopted at the same time as the official opening ceremony of the airport’s new terminal, Terminal A. The airport terminal is also often referred to as the Midfield Terminal.

The Abu Dhabi media office and Abu Dhabi International Airport are yet to reveal any changed branding for the new name.

It is yet to be seen if there will be an overhaul of the logo, its branded properties, all which feature its current name Abu Dhabi International Airport.

We wonder which agencies would be keen to pitch for such a big account, if given a chance . It’s a great opportunity to get creative and be part of history. We have been thinking about which agencies might be keen, should the renaming/rebranding be open to pitching – Campaign Middle East

Abu Dhabi Airports rebrand

Last year in November, the overall operator of Abu International Airport, Abu Dhabi Airports also announced its rebrand.

As part of its rebrand, it announced a refreshed brand architecture and visual identity.

The rebrand was part of the operator of Abu Dhabi’s five airports’ commitment to developing the aviation sector in the UAE’s capital.

As seen on screen

Abu Dhabi International Airport’s new terminal, while not open, has been part of a collaboration and been featured on screen before.

It made an appearance when, earlier this year, Etihad partnered with Paramount Pictures to become its official airline partner for the film, Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One.

As part of the partnership, Terminal A (Midfield Terminal), which will also be Etihad’s future home, was featured in film scenes in the latest movie from the Mission Impossible Franchise.
