Alex Lopes, Media Director, Interesting Times has been recognised on Campaign Middle East’s 40 Over 40, which honours leaders who have shaped the regional brand and marketing industry over the past 15 years and more.
This is not a ranking. It is the first edition of an annual platform created to spotlight senior industry figures aged 40 and older. They represent different disciplines and different leadership styles but are all builders of brands and businesses.
These have been recommended as caretakers of client trust and custodians of culture. The 40 over 40 list celebrates the people who have moved the needle – not for a season or for a single campaign cycle, but for several years.
Born in Brazil, Lopes found his way into marketing through a genuine curiosity about how people make decisions. That took him to Dublin, where years at Google and Omnicom, gave him a grounding in search engine marketing and analytics that most people in media still lacked at the time.
He moved to Dubai in 2017 and has not stopped since. Across Choueiri Group, MCN, We Are Social and now Interesting Times, he has worked at the intersection of media, data and technology, consistently in roles where the job was to figure things out rather than follow a playbook. New data infrastructures, new video and performance products, strategies that moved numbers. Each step built on the last.
His work has earned international recognition across multiple award shows, with seven SMARTIES MMA wins in the Middle East last year alone.
TOP ACHIEVEMENTS OVER THE PAST 12 MONTHS
Helping launch Balady+ in Saudi Arabia and watching it hit the top three on app stores already made it a great year. Then the Red Bull Mobile KSA campaign brought us seven SMARTIES MMA Awards across MENA and KSA in the same year, picking up Gold at both. Not just a recognition of the results, but of how hard we pushed the work to get there. Saudi Arabia has always been a great market to prove what is possible when you refuse to only play safe.
