Meta has announced new features designed to help people connect around shared interests and personalise their experience on threads.

Meta has announced that Threads has surpassed 500 million monthly active users and is rolling out a series of new features designed to help people connect around shared interests and personalise their experience on the platform.

According to Meta, communities have become one of the fastest-growing features on Threads, helping drive engagement around shared interests ranging from books and sport to parenting and music. To support this growth, Meta is introducing several updates to Communities.

New features for communities on threads

The company is moving Communities out of beta and introducing several highly requested updates.

  • Communities Hub: Users will find it easier to find and switch between communities by adding communiries to the main menu to the left of the feed.
  • Community Icons: Communities now have their own distinct visual identities, making them easier to spot and recognise across Threads.
  • Community Progress: Users can now see when a topic is close to becoming a community — and what they can do to help it get there.
  • Community Champions: meta is awarding community champion status to more people across communities.
  • Local Communities: meta is making communities local, starting with native-language tags in Japan, Korea, and Taiwan.

And in the coming weeks, meta will be expanding Live Chats to more communities — with co-hosting and the ability to quote moments to the feed.

“Dear Algo”

Meta is also expanding personalisation options with a new feature called “Your Algo”, which enables users to privately influence the recommendations shown in their feeds.

Users can request to see more or less of specific topics, building on the company’s earlier “Dear Algo” initiative that invited public feedback on recommendation systems. Initially, the feature is rolling out in select markets including the US, Canada, the UK, Australia and New Zealand.
