Dubai-based former England cricketer launches podcast on sport and racism

Former England cricketer Azeem Rafiq has launched a podcast on cricket and racism.

He has teamed up with sports presenter Matt Kabir Floyd for the podcast which is called “It’s Not Just Cricket”.

After a career as a professional cricketer, for both Yorkshire County Cricket Club and England, he relocated with his family to the UAE.

In September 2020, Rafiq became the centre of major news stories in the UK after he made accusations of racism and bullying at the Yorkshire cricket club.

An independent report found that a number of his accusations were true and were the subject of investigations by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee in the British parliament.

Despite his experiences, Dubai-based Rafiq still loves cricket and decided to launch a podcast on the topics.

“I am absolutely over the moon to share that I have launched a podcast “It’s Not Just Cricket” with Matt Kabir Floyd,” he wrote on social media. “We will be looking at all cricket topics of the week & continuing the fight against racism.”

In one episode he tells Floyd how threats to his family and constant abuse forced him to leave the UK for Dubai.
