Campaign’s PR Faces to Watch 2022 – Sarah Alsalem, Junior Account Manager, Gambit Communications
Age: 24
Kathleen Burbridge, Senior Account Director, Gambit Communications: “The convention is that people tend to move from agency side to client side, but Sarah was brave enough to make the move in the opposite direction despite flying high on the client side, because she wanted to test herself in a more challenging environment. That speaks volumes about her tenacity and drive, which has been clear in her outstanding work on Ferrari’s regional PR. As a confident and capable PR professional with creativity, self-awareness and depth, she has the potential to do anything she puts her mind to.”
Career highlights
As a Journalism graduate, I never imagined my first job would be working in the field of automotive PR, but that’s where I found myself when I joined the Toyota Motor Corporation as a PR Executive.
In my two and a half years at Toyota, I learned how to execute global strategies on a regional level, manage crisis communications and lead on projects like digitizing our PR work. I then made the big decision to move from client-side to agency-side at Gambit Communications to learn grassroots PR and test myself in different sectors. I’m proud of myself for stepping out of my comfort zone in order to learn and grow.
Guiding principles
Trust the process. Instead of thinking about the destination, I focus on the path I’m on. If I’m in a tough spot, I like to take time to reflect on the journey I took to get to where I am today.
Side hustle
I paint! Overall I love trying new things so you might also find me hiking, training or trying out the latest restaurant in town. After missing out on so much travel due to the pandemic, this year I want to travel more and experience new cultures.
