Campaign’s PR Faces to Watch 2020 – Mirna Tamimi, Account manager, Gambit Communications
Age: 23
Jamal Al Mawed, founder and managing director, Gambit Communications: I have never met a PR practitioner so accomplished this early in her career. Mirna is already the lead handler of our biggest client despite being the youngest person in the agency, and can name the editorial team at any publication across the region off the top of her head. As someone fully bilingual who was raised in Riyadh and studied in Sharjah, she is such a great representation of the young, locally developed talent in the region. She also brings a much-needed Gen Z vibe – she uses public transport instead of driving, streams music instead of buying it, loves Saudi Snapchat and is addicted to online shopping.
Career highlights
I’ve had an action-packed first two years in PR. After graduating with a degree in PR and journalism from the American University of Sharjah I was featured in Campaign ME’s 2018 Youth & Graduate issue of best new graduates entering the market, before being part of the Dubai Properties in-house team nominated for MEPRA Team of the Year. I then moved agency side and worked on Ferrari before joining Gambit Communications to lead on the Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles group account, handling eight major brands including Jeep, Dodge and Alfa Romeo. Oh, and I was featured in Private View!
Guiding principles
Girl Power! Media are always shocked that the lead on so many automotive brands is a girl, but I believe women can excel in any field when given the platform. I learned that from my mother.
Dream job
Personal shopper, beauty specialist and tour guide – at the same time!
Side hustle
I love the world of beauty and cosmetics and have been practising make-up techniques and beauty modelling since I was a teenager. I create beauty tutorials on my Instagram @TamimiBeauty for almost 4,000 followers.
