Al Arabiya News Network has announced the expansion of its English-language news segments with the introduction of new shows led by new presenters.
The network announced the launch of its new English programmes, Global News Today and WE News.
Al Arabiya New Network’s English programmes will be led by Rosanna Lockwood and Tom Burges Watson, who will cover a wide range of topics from international politics and current affairs to culture and human-interest stories.
Global News Today, presented by Rosanna Lockwood, will provide complete coverage of global events – such as the recent UK General Election – and a comprehensive look at global issues through guest interviews, expert insights and analysis.
Lockwood has previously worked as a presenter and correspondent for networks such as CNBC, MSNBC, Reuters, the BBC, Bloomberg TV, LBC, and ITN across Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Prior to joining Al Arabiya News Network, Lockwood hosted her own daily news show on Talk TV in the UK.
Presenting the WE News segment, Tom Burges Watson brings almost 20 years of experience in television, radio, and print media, having covered breaking news and major events such as the 2015 Paris attacks, the Beirut explosion, and the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
Watson was previously the host of the evening news show “Prime News Paris” on France 24, a channel of which he was part of for the past 15 years.
Reaching new audiences
The move is part of Al Arabiya’s strategy to reach a wider audience by increasing its scope of offerings beyond its core Arabic-language TV channel and digital platforms.
“We are looking forward to reaching new audiences around the world, providing them the trusted and accurate news coverage that our original Arabic network is known for,” shared Mamdouh AlMuhaini, General Manager of Al Arabiya Network.
He also added the international expansion reflects the network’s dedication to providing its viewers with “diverse perspectives and insightful analysis on the issues that matter most”.
