Balance the Mix, a not-for-profit organisation focused on equalising the gender disparity in the music industry, will host the Middle East’s first music production workshop for women this month as part of its ongoing commitment to championing and promoting under-represented music talent in the region.

Taking a closer look behind the scenes, the ratio of commercial artists is 78 per cent male and 22 per cent female, and of songwriters 86 per cent versus 14 per cent. In addition, just 3 per cent of music producers are women – a figure Balance the Mix is working to raise by 30 per cent over the next five years.

Their initiatives in the region include building an online talent pool through a dedicated website for under-represented talent. Additionally, they are planning to host regular seminars and events to address the issues women face in the industry; and exploring new ways to champion women and promote diversity through future collaborations with like-minded organisations.

Taking place on Tuesday, 29 April will take place at Firdaus Studio, in partnership with Blu Fiefer and SoundX: Workshops the free-to-attend workshop will focus on covering both the creative and business aspects of music production. Attendees will also gain insights into how to grow within the media and advertising world and secure professional opportunities.

Cherine Altobaishi, Regional Director, Balance the Mix – MENA, said: “This workshop is the first in a series of ongoing events, seminars, and initiatives for Balance the Mix in the region, where, despite a wealth of female talent, the number of women entering and staying in the music industry remains low. We’re excited to partner with Blu Feifer, whose extensive experience and strong industry track record will be invaluable to our workshop attendees.”

Balance the Mix was launched in the Middle East in March 2025 to raise awareness, promote, and foster growth among women in every aspect of the music industry. Currently, women are under-represented, with talent often not acknowledged or recognised in sectors such as production, songwriting, and commercial artistry.
