Ghina Said, Group Account Director, Acorn Strategy: Mariam Douss joined the Account Management team over six months ago and it’s been an absolute pleasure working with her.
I see Mariam as an invaluable asset to the team. Her positivity, honesty, and ambition, along with her ability to see a project through from conceptualisation to realisation is of great benefit to our team. She is proactive by nature and demonstrates great initiative in planning. She has proven to be great at collaborating with others. Over the past period, she has been promoted from junior executive to account executive and is on her way to a bright future.
Career highlights
I’m an Egyptian-Canadian born and raised in the UAE. Upon completing high school in Abu Dhabi, I challenged myself and learnt French as a foreign language within a year which I then proceeded to continue my college education in. I majored in Economics and Management which taught me a great deal about how the world works and helped me become more disciplined as a person. I graduated during the challenging times of the covid pandemic and found my calling in the creative industry. I enjoy working within a team that allows for my imagination and evolution to continue to grow.
Guiding principles
I believe in honesty, and the ability to acknowledge one’s mistakes. Every single mistake made is a chance to try again, and to learn, grow and build character. There is no secret formula, but good honest, work will take you much further than deflecting responsibility.
Side hustle
When I’m not at work, I’m in the gym lifting weights. The discipline that comes with partaking in such a mentally and physically challenging sport has translated itself into all aspects of my life, teaching me consistency, determination and most importantly: patience.
