Memac Ogilvy is to be the lead agency on global communications surrounding the opening of the New Suez Canal in Egypt.
Communication for the event, which is to take place on 6 August, will be handled by Team WPP, led by Memac Ogilvy with support from Memac Ogilvy Public Relations, Media Waves, Emeco Travel, JWT, Richard Attias and Mindshare.
The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) recently announced the beginning of celebrations surrounding the event, which will culminate in the opening by Egyptian president Abdel Fattah El-Sissi. Both the celebrations and the global campaign will be overseen by the SCA and implemented by Team WPP.
“It’s a great pride and honour to be chosen by the Suez Canal Authority to handle the advertising and the event of the launch,” said Edmond Moutran, chairman and CEO of the Memac Ogilvy Group. “Egypt has enormous pride in its canal and has the right to do so. It was built in one year by thousands of Egyptian heroes and paid for by the Egyptian people. Memac Ogilvy and WPP will do everything in our power to give the event the success the canal and the Egyptians deserve. No one could be more proud to be associated with this than I.”
